Washington County Arts Council August Exhibit
“Natural Apparitions” by Kate Keely and “Creations in Wood” by Tom Harple will be the featured exhibits at the Washington County Arts Council during the month of August 2015.
The exhibits open with a reception on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 5 to 7 pm and will run through August 25, 2015.
Kathryn (Kate) Keely, who presently lives in Frostburg, Maryland, is currently a doctoral student in Community College Administration at Morgan State University, Baltimore, MD. She holds multiple degrees, including a Master of Fine Arts in Mixed Media, an ABD in Art Education, a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.
Ms. Keely is an Adjunct Professor in History at Frostburg State University and an Adjunct Professor in Art at Hagerstown Community College. She has had multiple one- and two-person exhibitions as well as group shows in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania and frequently lectures in the area.
Artist Tom Harple was born and raised in Hagerstown, where he has lived his entire my life. Mr. Harple attended local public schools and became interested in metal work in high school and has worked for local industry in that field for the last 30 years.
A self-taught craftsman, Mr. Harple enjoys working with metal and wood and has built several of his woodworking tools from scratch. His recent interests have developed more in the art of woodturning, beginning with simple bowls to more interesting hollow-form pieces and larger vases, some incorporating the use of brass embellishment. Mr. Harple enjoys relying on the individual wood pieces and their characteristics to influence his designs. He enjoys gardening, landscaping, golf, fishing, skiing, snowboarding and playing the harmonica.
The Washington County Arts Council Gallery is located at 34 South Potomac Street, off Artist Alley in the heart of the Hagerstown Arts & Entertainment District.
