Frederick Children’s Chorus is dedicated to offering to all children in the community an opportunity to learn to love to sing, become skilled readers of musical notation, and study selections of music from many genres, periods in history, and languages, through age-appropriate vocal training. The Chorus provides singers with performance experience and rehearsal practices to serve them for a lifetime. We strive to nurture the unique gift of each child, to strive for excellence, and to raise responsible and compassionate citizens of the world.
The Frederick Children’s Chorus
Little Music Makers: Mockingbird Age Class (Ages 5–8)
Tuesdays: September 16 to December 9, 5–6 pm
Parents are welcome to accompany children. Play musical games and use movement to explore melodic rhythmic patterns, singing together, singing as individuals, playing instruments, recognition and recall skills, and working together as a group. Instructors will introduce sheet music, and students will learn how to follow along on the page. Program promotes early reading skills, home practice using a CD with vocal model, and singing in tune with other children. Students will receive instruction to help develop a healthy singing voice, stage presence, concert etiquette, and choral performance skills. Two formal concerts are presented in the spring: one with only Little Music Maker Mockingbirds and one with the full Children’s Chorus at The Weinberg Center for the Arts.
No audition is necessary. Enrollment will be open through the first class of the semester. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
A free Open House for anyone interested in our Little Music Makers program will be held on September 9 at the same time and place listed above. It’s a great way to see what the program is all about without having to commit first!
