The Dance Between Conservation and Art



Right from the start, I was captivated by this film. Choreographer Allison Orr’s (right) enthusiasm was infectious, her vision unique, and her personality irresistible. Filmmaker Andrew Garrison introduces her to us by asking the ultimate question; namely, what’s this all about? It’s two days before her big show — the show in which the nervous staff and big trucks and impressive equipment of Austin’s trash department will perform a sort of mechanized dance before an overflow crowd in a vast parking area on a rainy summer night. The film is called Trash Dance, and it’s the Green Fire Award winner at this fall’s American Conservation Film Festival (ACFF) in Shepherdstown.
