“Opposites Attract: Clay, Glass & Painting Pyromania!” Exhibit
“Opposites Attract: Clay, Glass & Painting Pyromania!” a Jackie Shaw and Heidi Lippman exhibit, opens at Washington County Arts Council with a reception on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 5 pm to 7 pm and will run through September 29, 2015.
Jackie Shaw—As a late arrival to pottery, Jackie Shaw, a 32-year resident of Smithsburg, MD, enjoys combining her pursuit of art and design from her lifelong career in painting, publishing and international teaching with this more recent outlet. Her work, both in pottery and painting, often reflects her interest in ethnic folk arts and architectural details. She frequently combines painting and carving to create special, personalized, one-of-a- kind pieces. Her love of simple, honest, classical and organic shapes is reflected in her stoneware pottery. In her paintings, she is drawn to exuberant colors and patterns, adding angles and lines to contrast with the organic shapes.
Heidi Lippman—As a long-term resident of Bethesda and Smithsburg, MD, Heidi Lippman has had the opportunity to expand her studio works to the public realm with monumental installations. These can be seen in numerous public venues in the Mid-Atlantic Region, including hotels and hospitals, BWI Marshall Airport, New Carrollton Regional Transportation hub, and Mark Transportation Center for the Army Corps of Engineers in Alexandria, VA. Her unique training as both craftswoman and fine artist (painter, sculptor and fiber artist) integrates these works within their architectural framework whether glass, mosaic or terrazzo.
Lippman’s studio works explore color, light and the relationship between painting and fused glass. She holds a BFA from California College of the Arts, Oakland, CA and a MFA from Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, CA
The Washington County Arts Council Gallery is located at 34 South Potomac Street, off Artist Alley in the heart of the Hagerstown Arts & Entertainment District.
