Halloween Photo Exhibit at Lost Dog Coffee Now Through October 31

Lost Dog Coffee in Shepherdstown announces a photography exhibit: “Halloween on River Road,” by Shepherdstown-based artist Hyang Suk Oh, runs now through the October 31st. The photos were taken over several years at the annual Halloween celebration that used to occur outside of town on the river.  Oh explains the background of the photos:

“For 14 years Justin Oldbenburg, Jesse Shultzaberger and Shannon Holliday hosted a Halloween party down on River Road. Each year it got bigger and wilder, with more music and crazy costumes.  This is a sampling of some of the good times. What I especially liked was how people’s costumes seemed to reflect their inner spirits set free on this one lustful night, unleashing monsters, angels, beasts and bizarre nightmare fantasies upon the world. I was privileged as an outsider to experience such a colorful community celebration of spiritual togetherness.”

Oh was born in Korea and received bachelor of fine arts degrees from Hong Ik University in Korea and Kassel University of Arts in Germany. Her work has been shown in several photography exhibits in Germany. In 2014 she exhibited her portraits of the people of Syria at Ricco’s Gallery in Shepherdstown.
